The Odessa Project provides care for orphans in Ukraine and there will be a short talk on this work at around 9pm.

The rest of the evening will be dancing to a live band “Mind Your Own Business”.

In an age when many conflicting priorities are thrust on us as individuals, families and as a church, we are encouraged and warned by God’s word to keep the main things the main things and not get derailed.

In this letter to Timothy Paul instructs the young pastor to sort out the church for the sake of the gospel.

He does this knowing that when we as a church live under God’s order with his priorities, we’re a blessing to him, each other, ourselves and – most importantly – to many, many, others who come to know Christ through seeing him at work in his new community.

Paul refers to the church as “God’s household” (3:15), entirely convinced that only an authentic church with true belief and right behaviour, will show the glory of God. Christ’s new community is shaped to display what it is like when God is at home and leading his people.

Paul therefore encourages Timothy to stick at it, knowing that as the church is brought back on track by the gospel, we will produce fruit which those outside the church cannot fail to notice.

Getting back on track is what Christ wants for his church, and for this he provides every resource: the confidence, strength and hope we need. Come with us as we get on board with God’s plans, and strive together to live out the gospel.

In this next section of Luke’s Gospel, the religious authorities start to confront Jesus more. They believe he is a threat and so they seek to do all they can to oppose and expose him. However, Jesus turned the tables on them and revealed their sham religion and shallow spirituality.

In doing so Jesus faced his followers up to the reality of what it means to follow him. As we read through Luke chapters 11-12 we will be faced with the same choice: will we live for him whatever the cost? It’s decision time!
